JINDAL INDIA POWER LIMITED
Jindal India Power Ltd (JIPL) has set up a 1200 MW capacity coal based thermal power plant in village Derang, Angul District of Odisha State. JIPL believes in a holistic development approach through sustainable intervention to create positive impact on communities. It is also committed to protect the environment and focus on health and safety.

KEY INITIATIVES
I. Skill Development
Skilling is significant aspect for economic development of communities. To build skill sets across all the target groups youth, adolescent, women etc, a skill centre is being run at Angul.
So far, approx. 200 youth, women and adolescent girls completed trainings in stitching and basic computer courses.
SAKSHAM- Computer And Science Education
The project ‘Saksham’ is fostering learning ecosystem at Government Schools by promoting computer and science education. The project is being implemented in association with NIIT Foundation to impact the education of children.
So far, project impacted 371 children in 5 schools in Derang, Angul.
LAKSHYA - Sports Training
The project ‘Lakshya’ is being run in association with the Sportz Village Foundation, to provide coaching in nationally recognised sports'. This program aims to promote sports as skill to help to improve physical, mental and health among the children in remote communities.
The project benefitted 434 children through regular sport activities and improving infra structure in 9 government schools.
II. HEALTH CARE
B C Jindal Health Centre, Derang
The Derang panchayat being a remote village in Angul lacks the basis health facility for the community thus to ensure quality healthcare services reaches vulnerable and economically disadvantaged populations and to improve access to essential medical care, a health centre was established in the area. The BC Jindal Health Centre provides a range of primary and secondary healthcare services, including preventive, diagnostic and emergency services. The project also focuses on promotive and preventive care.
In last one year approx. 8000 people from nearby villages been directly impacted
Community Emergency-Care Services
The Derang panchayat is remotely located and having no access to emergency-care services. BC Jindal Foundation, runs free ambulance facility to provide emergency-care services to local community i.e. transporting accidental cases and referral patients to appropriate referral medical care centre.
So far, approx. 1000 emergency referral cases are attended and provided required support.
PANNI-Safe drinking water for community
Access to quality drinking water is a major health issue in the area, the PANNI project in association with BAIF, installed 20 Solar based RO water lifting plants in peripheral villages of plant areas. These units are providing safe drinking water access to Households in villages who suffer acute shortage and contaminated ground water. To make it self-sustainable, village level committee (VLC) is formed and plants area handed-over to VLCs.

III. EDUCATION
Unnayan (Upgradation of Govt. Schools)
In rural pockets Government schools are the only ray of hope for communities, schools at Derang Panchayat were lacking basic amenities for children and teachers. The project ‘Unnayan’ exclusively worked on improving the infrastructure of schools, basic amenities and creating a technology-based learning environment for children. It allowed children to carve out a bright future and break the shackles of ignorance.

BC Jindal Vidya Scholarship
We echo equal opportunity and the right to education for all. the 'BC Jindal Vidya Scholarship' program in association with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is an attempt to provide financial assistance to girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are studying in government schools from 9th to 12th grade. The project has provided avenue for meritorious girls think beyond their limitations.
In 2023-24, 93 meritorious girls from 3 government schools provided scholarships
Access to education – transporting children through School Bus
In Derang Panchayat, the lack of public transport is the biggest hurdle in commuting to schools which led to huge drop out in upper primary and senior secondary level especially for girls. JIPL provided free transportation facility to more than 500 children with an objective to ensure access to quality education and bring down the drop-out rate.

IV. RURAL DEVELOPMENT
Unnayan – Building Community Infra Structure
In order to improve the rural infrastructure, JIPL engage with local panchayats and village heads to seek their suggestion to build or renovate facilities at villages. The company constructed community hall, village road, beautification buildings and other suggested works. It has impacted more than 5,219 population in the area.
V. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Rural Electrification
JIPL, in collaboration with likeminded organizations and village committee members, installed the Solar Street lights in nearby villages. These solar lights operate with zero operational and maintenance costs, providing illumination and security for residents.
In last one year, 100 units of solar streetlights are installed benefiting 1,306 families.

CASE STUDY
Oral Health for All : Challenges and Diagnosis
Mr. Ranjan, a 42-year-old resident of Dernag village, consulted the BC Jindal Health Center for a persistent burning sensation in his mouth and restricted mouth opening, both of which he had been experiencing for 5 to 6 months. Clinically, he presented with oral mucosal changes, burning mouth syndrome, and reduced mouth opening. A comprehensive 8-week treatment plan was initiated, resulting in gradual symptom improvement, including reduced burning and increased mouth mobility. Mr. Ranjan is doing much better and expressed gratitude for the treatment.
Transforming Learning Environments
The Government schools in Derang panchayat of Angul lacked basic amenities for students and teachers. To address this, JIPL, in partnership with Habitat For Humanity India undertook the project for development of local Govt. schools. In first phase, the JIPL taken 09 government schools to enhance learning environments for 701 children. The schools were provided support for building clean sanitation units for boys and girls, providing desks and benches, creating dedicated learning spaces like a SMART classroom, computer lab, and mini science lab. The quality sanitation facilities improved privacy, safety, and hygiene, for teenage girls, these improvements have significantly impacted the learning outcomes of schools and modern & interactive classrooms sparked greater interest and engagement among students.

Drops of Million Happiness
Shri Srimukha Pradhan, a 45-year-old resident of Ghantianali village, home to approximately 150 families, faced significant challenges in accessing clean drinking water. During the summer months, the village's tube wells, and open wells would dry up, leading to groundwater contamination. This forced her and others to travel long distances to fetch drinking water. In response, JIPL implemented the 'PANNI' project, installing solar-powered RO water lifting plants on existing water sources to provide clean and safe drinking water by removing contaminants. After benefiting from the RO water, She emphasized that the community felt blessed and deeply thankful for JIPL's impactful initiative.
